Jawahar Persaud joined the Ministry of Finance in 2009 as its Deputy Accountant General. He became the Accountant General in 2011.
He spent more than 20 years in Public Accounting which he gained as a member of the Guyana Defence Force and Mr. Persaud began his military career in 1982. He was commissioned as Second Lieutenant in 1983 then promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 1986, Captain in 1991, Major in 1998, Lieutenant Colonel in 2006 and Colonel in 2015.
He has a Degree in Accounts from the University of Guyana and is a member of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants.
Mr. Persaud serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Guyana Dependant Fund.
He is married to Fazeela Baksh and has two kids.
