MERVIN MATTHEWS

Mr Mervin Matthews is a young professional who has recently joined the Basic Needs Trust Fund as the Assistant Accountant. In this role, he assists with the management of the organisation’s Accounts, Financial Records, Receipts and Payments. He holds a Diploma in Accounting from the University of Guyana. Mr Matthews has over ten years of experience working in the accounting arena, within both the public and private sectors. In addition, he has eight (8) passes in CXC subjects and also acquired a certificate in Microsoft Office. He is very passionate about the work he does and strives for excellence. ANNA BENJAMIN

Ms Anna Benjamin is the Administrative Assistant at BNTF Guyana. She has fifteen years of project experience having worked with the Guyana Training Agency (EU/GOG) as Corporate Services & Information Officer, Fiscal & Financial Management Programme (IDB/GOG) as Administrative Assistant/Office Manager, National Competitive Strategy Unit (IDB/GOG) as Administrative Assistant and for the past three years with BNTF. Apart from projects, Ms Benjamin has vast management experience in the Private Sector having served as General Manager at J.P. Santos & Company Limited, Managing the Metro/UG Bookstore & Convenience Store and the East Wing & Stationery Departments of Guyana Stores Limited. She is also an HR professional having served as Human Resource Manager in three different companies, one of which she created the HR division for 200 plus employees.

Ms Benjamin was trained in HR Management, Project Management Professional (PMP), Sales & Marketing, Point-of-Sale Accounting Systems and was certified as a Brainbench Written English Professional and Keyboard Operator. She is also a qualified Microsoft Office Specialist. Her special skills include shorthand, proofreading, research and internet usage.

HYOMI CARTY-ACCRA

Ms Hyomi Carty-Accra is the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at BNTF Guyana. She has 10 years of experience in the development, public policy, and education spheres, and holds a Master’s degree in International Affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA). Prior to joining BNTF, Ms Carty-Accra worked as a research consultant for two United Nations agencies in the areas of peacekeeping, peacebuilding, and community empowerment. She has extensive experience in grant-writing, research, data collection/analysis, resource mobilization, and project management, by way of her work with the United States Peace Corps, and various NGOs and non-profit organisations. Ms Carty-Accra is excited to contribute to the dynamic work of BNTF, where she and her colleagues can directly partner with communities and organisations to reduce poverty levels and enhance the quality of life for citizens throughout Guyana.

BEVERLEY BUNBURY

Ms Beverley Bunbury is a Community Liaison Officer at BNTF Guyana. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, with a major in Sociology, from the University of Guyana. She is a professional counsellor and has previously served as a Parent Skills Officer for a child advocacy organisation. She believes strongly in the spirit of humility and honesty which she has aimed to reflect in her professional and personal life. VONETTA HERBERT-CARTER

Ms Vonetta Herbert-Carter has served as a Community Liaison Officer at BNTF Guyana for the past five years. She holds a degree in Social Sciences, with a major in Public Management, from the University of Guyana. She has several years of experience in Human Resources, Finance and Administration. Her passion is to see people move from one stage of their lives to a higher level, and BNTF has allowed her the opportunity to help vulnerable groups rise out of their present state of poverty. Ms Herbert-Carter also works with and mentors young women of the Better Hope Assembly of God church community through the Missionettes Department.

SHABANA OMAR

Ms Shabana Omar has been with BNTF Guyana for two and a half years, where she currently serves as the Project Engineer. Her responsibilities include proving technical inputs, monitoring the implementation of sub-projects and other technical activities relating to projects. She holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree (Civil) from the University of Guyana. Ms Omar has seven years of experience in project management and supervision of projects in several disciplines, including roads, schools, drainage and water supply.

Ms Omar is an outdoor personality who has experience executing projects in the harsh terrains of Guyana’s interior. Ms Omar is passionate about her job and her role in the improvement of lives through poverty alleviation projects being implemented by the BNTF. Ms Omar also contributes to community projects through the Rotaract Club of Georgetown.
